After my interest in roguelike-games had been awoken by "Dwarf Fortress" a few months ago, I started exploring the genre in depth. I played a good amount of them or at least got first impressions otherwise, but "Tales of Maj'Eyal" undoubtedly is one of the best I have seen so far.

What I don't particularly enjoy is playing through the same zones for the 50th time. Ideally, I'd like a roguelike with TOME's skills setup but with procedural zones/levels. TOME doesn't offer too much outside of questing and killing, while ADOM doesn't offer much for combat outside of bumping into things. That said they're both great - my two favorite roguelikes.

Tome has more enjoyable combat. The combat is ADOM is a lot about juggling items. But my favorite thing about ADOM that TOME nor almost any other major RL does well is the difficulty curve throughout the game. Because of the corruption system, you're on a timetable to win. Every quest or place to visit induces a risk-reward debate.
